What IsYour 1st B&M Experience?
FIRST NIGHT IN THE POKER ROOM
BY... Runnergirl
Well, I still can't breathe and the adrenalin is still going! I Put my name down for the 2-5 limit hold em table and got in almost immediately which was good. I didn't have much time to think about it and chicken out. I think there were tops three other women in the room with maybe 80 men. The table I was at I was the only woman. I Bought $60 worth of chips, let the dealer know that I hadn't played in a room before, he was great. First hand I'm dealt Q 10 d, I go in for two and it's raise, raise, raise all around, before I know it I've paid 8 dollars to see the flop. Flop comes with two diamonds and it's raise, raise, raise again. I've now spent 16 dollars, I'm thinking I'm going to be out of here quick. Turn comes nothing, everyone checks thank goodness. River comes no diamond. I fold. The next hand I get A J unsuited, just costs me two dollars to stay in, flop comes with Q K but there are two spades. Two dollars to stay in turn is another spade, everybody checks so I think nobody has the flush, river comes it's the 10. I bet five everybody folds, the guys at the other end of the table are cursing themselves for not calling and seeing what I had. Fold the next hand. The next hand I get AA I couldn't believe it. New dealer who is the spitting image of Ben Afflek is very, very distracting. I try raising when I could only open betting so everyone knows I've got a hand. Chuckles all around, but six go in with me. Flop comes 752 I try betting too much again and I'm told I can only bet 2. Nobody raises of course, chuckles all around again. The turn comes and nothing so I bet 5 and 3 stay with me. Thed river comes with nothing again so I bet 5 and now they want to see my cards so someone calls and I win the pot. I fold the next two hands then I get A 10 unsuited and I go in and flop A 10 3. I bet 2 nobody raises, turn comes with nothing I bet 5 guy raises I'm kicking myself this morning obviously I should had reraised, I just called. Same thing on the river and I win another big pot. Well now I'm so nervous I can't control the shaking of my hands and I'm having trouble breathing, idiot....right? So I decided to leave. Although this is sound like a long time, I was in there for maybe 30 minutes. I went in with $60 and came out with $134. Great learning experience!
My husband has more confidence in my game than he did before I went in (he was betting the horses waiting for me) my heart is still pounding as I'm writing this. Now I can't wait for my first tournament, there is one on the 11th, whether or not I can convince my husband that the 300 dollar buy in is worth it or not is another thing. I'll have to try a little of this.
I'm sorry this is so long winded but as you all know there is nothing like your first time. I've definitely missed some details. What I did notice was that I didn't have much time (as I was so nervous) to think about my position, who was betting and their position. This will take time and experience I guess and probably alot of money.
I had to edit this to add that when I left the poker room, I had absolutely no saliva left in my mouth, I could barely speak, next time I will know to order a bottle of water as soon as I sit down!

An Interview With Dizziartist
About 3 years
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
Surfing the internet
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
Mostly online.
Q. What is your favorite game?
NLHE
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Not really.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
No. But I hope to soon.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
Pacific Poker had given me $10 in my account to play on their site. I decide to play a $5 tourney. Once I made it to the money I just kept trying to hit the next level. The whole game I had been just hanging on. Then before I knew it there were 2 tables left. I just kept doubling and tripling up. Then I was at the final table. I was so greatful that I made it that far and I just sat back a little and watched the other players knock each other out. And then there were 3 Of us left and I was the short stack. I get AJsuited in the BB. The button raises and the SB calls and I decide I am so greatful to get this far that I'm gonna push and go allin. The button calls and the SB goes all in too. I win the hand and SB is out we are down to 2. In the meantime Rocky is playing in the background (how fitting is that) we play a few hands and now I have the chip lead. I get AK when the other guy pushes all in I call and before I know it there is "Winner" flashing on the screen. $997 paid to dizziartist. w00t!

An Interview With Jbenter
About 20 years or more. Started out playing 7 card stud in college and switched to Holdem when it got popular. It was much easier to find games in my area.
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
I entered a home league last year to try and win a seat at the Championship game. I came in second place, but went anyway and had a great time. Met some nice people and they told me about the Chix site and the Lip's Tour. Met Lupe (she probably doesn't remember me - there were alot of new people there in Vegas) and she told me about all the Lip's Tour information.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
I live in Texas (no legal gambling) so I play in alot of home games, charity events, and online. I am a Tournament Director for Doyle Brunson's Amateur Poker League and before the ban on online poker - I used to play about 4 or 5 times a week in his tournaments online. That site offered alot of freerolls for APL members and I built a bankroll by placing in the top 27 out 999 in several of his added money freerolls.
Q. What is your favorite game?
I play alot of NL Holdem, but I love Omaha. I would have to say that is my favorite game.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Either is fine with me.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
The only Lip's event I have been able to play in was the Championship last year at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. I would love to play in more, but Texas is pretty far from most of the Lip's events.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
I would have to say that my most memorable win was in one of the Open Tournament this year in Lewisville, Texas for the Amateur Poker League against top point leaders from all over the United States. I was so proud to represent Texas and win that tournament against 120 really tough players. It was so much fun.

An interview with ????????????????????
Holdem for 4 years but learned 5-card draw and stud as a child.
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
I used to belong to another forum and one day I tried to log on and couldn't get in. I emailed and emailed and never heard back so I went searching on the internet and found chix through my search.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
Mostly online but I do go to AC a couple times a year and play at Foxwoods or Seabrook race park when I can.
Q. What is your favorite game?
Honestly, don't laugh... pl 5-card draw. I spend hours a day playing it on pokerstars...my style of play works well with this game and I've built up an okay bankroll because of it.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Nope, I'll take money from either gender lol...I don't discriminate. ;)
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Unfortunately no...hopefully soon.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
I've had a few mtt wins online that I'm proud of. I haven't won a live tournament yet (besides sngs) but I've made 2 final tables at the Taj in AC...I'm pretty proud of that. I finished in 57th place out of 462 players at the last ladies tournament at Foxwoods...I didn't cash but I do think I played some of my best poker that day.

An interview with Mamajodo
What year did Moneymaker win? That's when I started playing so 2004 I think?
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
My very first live tourney happened to be a LIPS event and they mentioned Pokerchix.com in some of the announcements.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
I play both, but prefer live play anyday!
Q. What is your favorite game?
I absolutely love Holdem! But have discovered the joys of Omaha too so I have been playing that more and more often.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
It's easier to win money playing against men. But to improve my game I prefer playing with women, they are so much harder to beat!
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Yes! LIPS gave me the courage to get out and play in any event!
Q. What was your most memorable win?
In my second LIPS event I was literally down to 1 chip! Lupe was there sweating me and helping me stay positive. Well I doubled up that chip a few times and held out for quite a while to make to the money! I didn't win the event but felt so dang good anyway, it was great!

An Interview with JwlD1
Back in high school we used to play bourre (a cajun card game) played all forms of poker on and off through high school & college then basically quit until I became pregnant with Josie--when online poker hit!
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
I was playing at Pokerhost (all the freerolls I could find) & I came across a freeroll tourny for women so I entered it. Next thing I know-I won it and the prize was entry to the first Pokerchix Championship in Oceanside, CA. I had never played B&M so I made a couple of trips over to Louisiana to the casino & entered a couple of tournies to get rid of the nervous jitters. Get to Oceanside & play a satellite there just to get some more practice & finished 2nd in it. Went on to place 7th in the 1st Chix Championship. Anyway I joined Pokerchix after that win at PH & all the gals made me feel right at home.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
Mostly online since I have 2 little ones, but I try to sneak off every once in a blue moon to play at the Horseshoe in Bossier City, LA.
Q. What is your favorite game?
Online I love playing Omaha Hi/lowTournies-NLHE
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Men are easier to beat-lol!!!
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Yes-well the 1st championship.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
Ummm-lol-at that 1st LIPS championship-raising with PP 10's to have Lupe (PokerChick) move all in with a PPAces. Well I made the call & ended making a set to take Lupe out. She told me then to take those chips and make the money so thats what I did. If it wasnt for Lupe & the LIPS tourny, I would not have the confidence I have now to play tourneys both live & online. I have learned so much from these fabulous ladies & proudly call them not only friends but sisters/family.
An Interview With KAngel1986
I have been playing for about 2 yrs now
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
The local "free" league I play in - sponsored several 12 week sessions for entry into the 2006 LIPS Championship.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
Yes - I play on UtlimateBet and Absolute Poker. I love to play in Vegas - but also try to play at some casinos in OK, NM and Louisana
Q. What is your favorite game?
I love NL Hold'em, but I am becoming a very big fan of Omaha
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
I love the "comradery" when you play with women - but I love playing cash against the guys - you can so take them for a lot of money
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
I have only played "live" in the 2006 Championship - would love to get my bankroll established so I can travel and become more involved in the "live" tournaments.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
My most memorable win would be when I won my seat into the 2006 LIPS Championship with the "free" league I play with - There were over 80 women that played for a 12 week period, then we had our final touranment. When we got down to heads up - it was very exciting to realize that it might be possible I would get to go. When I won, I received a trophy - which I took home and placed on the bathroom counter - as soon as my husband woke up and saw it, he rushed out of the bathroom and said "YOU WON", that was almost as exciting as the win. Meeting and playing with everyone at the Championship was great (although I didn't last very long in the tourney). Lupe did a fabulous job and we received a very cool jacket, that was personalized by Pocket Jacks, at the Championship dinner. To see the friendships/kinships between the chixters was wonderful - I stayed to the final table helping count down how many players were left til certain people reached the money. I had my favs picked out and cheered them on- I met Bonita and Cara (I was very impressed with her level of play). I am so looking forward to being with this group again in 2007.

An Interview with Jebber99
I don't even remember learning poker. I first remember playing it in my twenties. I've been playing Texas Hold Em a little over 3 years.
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
Gyla and I played in the Ladies Event of the World Poker Open in January of 2005. It was a Lips Event. Unfortunately Lupe was sick at that tourney and didn't attend but they kept talking about Lips. When I returned from the tourney I logged in to check it out. I remember seeing some of the Chix ladies there but didn't know it at the time. I saw Smiley, Tammy, and Kathy. I think I talked to Tina while I was watching Gyla on the final table.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
I prefer B&M. I just don't have the attention span to play online anymore.
Q. What is your favorite game?
Hold Em Tourneys
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
I have no preference in tournaments. In Cash cames I prefer to play against men.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
I've played in LIPS events in Tunica, Boloxi MS and Las Vegas.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
The most memorable win wasn't even mine. Gyla made the final table at our first big tourney in Tunica. That was the most exciting evening I think I've ever spent. My most memorable win was coming in 28th last year in the Ladies WSOP. That was great.

An Interview with r_u_freakin_kiddin_me
About 4-5 years. I started playing at our house with a few friends just for fun and then we got more involved which lead us to build our own tables and we started having more people playing every weekend at our house.
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
Honestly, I don't remember but I'm a member for Life!
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
I use to play online but gave up so now just Live
Q. What is your favorite game?
NLH
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Nope
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Yep, FINISHED 10TH PLACE in 2006 MANY MANY THANKS TO LUPE AND ALL OF THE POKERCHIX FOR THAT WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AND A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES!!! Well of course I had butterflies all night so I barely slept but anyhow I got up and had a quick bite to eat with hubby our friend Shelly and even met some of the other pokerchix. Before even actually buying in I turned and got just about out of line and said can't play I'm feeling sick just knowing how many of the good Pokerchix were in it like london, survivor, angntblueyes all whom I had played with online. The room was so full but of course hubby and Shelly (pokerboydyke) told me to relax and I purchased my buy in. At the beginning I got no cards this lady on the side of me OMG if you thought the deck was in her favor it sure was she was catching cards the whole first prob half or or so. Anyways I finally looked down at QQ so I bet out and got a caller. (Skasino01) On the flop came a Q I was first to go so I made this ughh sound and said CHECK. Skasino01 said she was all in I hesitated purposely and then said well I call nothing helped her and she was out. I honestly felt excited but sad for her. Anyhow at the first break I realized I was chip leader. As the game went on I focused mostly on keeping my chips stack high and also watched the other tables a sit became down to about 4 tables left. The more they started going out I watched our table and told them to just play slowly and they would all make it. Kelly was sitting across from me with probably just enough for 1 hand so i took my time as I heard another table say someone was all in and Boom Kelly was able to make in the money ! iI said see told ya slow play always helps she thanked me and of course I was so happy for her. I then ended up making to the final table and I was up againt a huge stack lady who kept on shoving so I got a lil pissed and looked down at KJ clubs and I called her raise up to the turn then she was basically putting me all in and so I folded due to the fact I caught absolutely nothing. I ended up getting 10th place ..... after not wanting to even try playing cause I never had played in a live Ladies only event.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
EVERY WIN WAS A MEMORABLE ONE My first win ever was at Foxwoods, Mixed Limit tourney finished 7th place, the Lips game in 2006 11th place, then the following day 3rd place @ Binions Horshoe - Susie Issaccs Ladies event in 2006 Foxwoods event I actually didn't feel too nervous but lets just say some of the men were rude but others were so kind. when I made the final table I had 2 chips left and can you believe I got so lucky catching trips 2 times in a row but then I was BB and forced all in against 2 other players. I turned my cards over slowly and missed my straight. That experience was awesome cause I honestly felt like a pro in the sence that I had a whole crowd gathered around and many were cheering me on ! Then there came LIPS (story is above) Then came Suzi Issacs ladies Only Event at Binions Horeshoe in 2006 ( the day after the LIPS game) There were 60-70 ladies and again my nerves got to me and even tho I made the final table yesterday. I was feeling like just cause I won once doesn't mean I would again. Anyways I got to meet more chix and like a kid who wants candy well thats how I felt about meeting and playing with Susie Issaccs. I couldn't stop saying OMG I'm playing with a a pro. I even got to sit right next to her OMG I was so excited and she even chatted with us and we also got to take pitures with her and Joe Hashum.

Limit Hold'em, it is a very different game than no limit and I think Limit is more challenging than No Limit.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
I love to play men and out play them. It is just so much fun to watch them blow up cause a woman beat them.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Yes, let's see.......WPO two times in Tunica, WPT two times in Tunica, New Orleans Harrahs, WPT in Biloxi, Check -n- Raise Vegas, the Chix WSOP Freeroll and the WSOP.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
Haven't ever won a live tournament, but I have gotten to six final tables and I placed 41st in last year's WSOP Women's event. They were all very exciting, I loved every minute of playing.

Q. What is your favorite game?

Men because you can exploit theere misconceptions on women cant play lol. But as far as having a good time while playing and good competition I prefer women.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Once in Tunica. Came in 28th, paid through 18 about 300 entrants.
Q. What was your most memorable win?
I dont have any huge pay days to report. The first tournament I played in live was a 90 person tourney, with only 5 women. Thirty buck entry. I made the final table with only 3 chips which equaled a big blind and a small blind and i was up for the blinds. I folded the big blind, and was all in on the small blind and won that and then proceeded to knock all the players out slowly and won the tourney. Won 300 bucks and was excited lol.

An Interview with Iby
Been playing since I was a pup out back in philly for pennies, nickels and dimes. games like 3 card ante, baseball, draw, etc. But in 2004 I leared about NL Hold 'Em from a family memeber. I played in my first LIPS tourney and finished on the bubble. I had no idea how to play my big stack so therefore I became shortsacked and I had no idea how to play that either lol After that tourney I vowed to learn how to play a big stack and a shortstack and everything in between, so I decided to educate myself with reading books and research forums, etc.
Q. How did you come to Pokerchix.com?
Found the info at my first lips tourney.
Q. Do you play online, B&M or both?
I play both, but online bores me now....so I generally like playing live better.
Q. What is your favorite game?
NL Hold 'Em but I like 7 card stud too.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
I prefer mixed events, but I really don't care who I am playing against.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?
Yep
Q. What was your most memorable win?
Win? As in 1st place type of win or money win? My most memorable first place was winning the Poker Authors Challenge...lotsa ups and downs that was. Most memorable money win...probably coming in 4th at the Borgata Poker Open because it was a veryyyy long tourney with 500+ women in it and also coming in 5th during the Ultimate Poker Challange in Vegas, cause well the final 7 players were video taped on the final table. Don't ask me tho when it will be on, cuz I dunno!

I play both online and brick and mortar. I prefer live altho from 2000 - 2005 I loved online better but the glitter faded away. I miss playing live so much and hope someday to start playing again.
Q. What is your favorite game?
If I had to pick only one I'd say No Limit Holdem. I do like Stud, Omaha, Razz, Pineapple, and Horse too.
Q. Do You have a preference which gender to play against?
Not really...as long as I'm winning.
Q. Have you played in the LIPS Tour?

An interview with Lupe
Q. How did PokerChix.com come to be?
ack in 2002 a group of online poker players got together to form a club called Victory Team. It was an open group and we played online all the time. Well, as it developed, it became Victory Poker and we'd have monthly championship tournaments. One for the guys and one for the ladies. We had a total blast playing together! These tournaments went on for a little over a year when someone brought up the fact that poker is a non-gender specific sport. So, the monthly championships were combined into one big tournament. And that was fine and all, but honestly? WE MISSED PLAYING WITH JUST US GIRLS!
So, I dabble on the web and I decided to open a group just for us ladies that had fun playing ladies only tournaments. In July of 2002, PokerChix.com was born.
As word was spread about our little online group, we grew and grew and now, we have the best forum for women on the net! A little of this, a little of that, and some of the most amazing women you'll ever meet!
Q. How did the LIPS Tour start?
Hmmm... well, the idea originated from watching the World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational on television. I saw these really good poker players yet I didn't know who they were nor did I ever think I'd be in the same poker level as they were because they were pros. I also noticed there were no women in the main final tables in poker either. I knew some amazing players and I felt tt was simply the sheer numbers of women vs. men seperating women from being in the limelight.
I secretly felt like if women across the country knew of the fun we had at Poker Chix, they would want to come out to play too! That is when I drafted a plan and came up with a catchy name. Then called my friend who was the tournament director at the time of Ocean's Eleven Casino. I told her my plan and she encouraged me to get it done. So I put Ocean's Eleven on the spot and requested they be the first stop on the tour! hehehe Of course they said yes as they are pioneers in women's poker with the California State Ladies Championship that happens every year in September. I was sending out letters to casinos and Jerry Fuller from Canterbury Park in Minnesota also answered the call to host on the same weekend! So, our first weekend had two events in two parts of the country
Since then, we have had the good fortune to be embraced by the poker world. We are in our third season and in over 35 casinos nation wide along with several online poker rooms and our Grand Championship is one of the best ladies tournaments in the world!
Q. How long have you been playing poker?
I started in 2001 watching my honey Joe play stud at our local casino. Then after about six months of watching, he didn't take too kindly to my critiques of his play. So he handed me some money and told me to go play at my own table. Needless to say, that was the beginning of my poker life! lol
Q. What is your favorite game?
I learned on Stud H/L and now I play mostly cash games. I am addicted to Omaha H/L and HORSE!
Q. How do you prepare for a tourney?
Two shots of tequila and a lot of prayer.... you think I'm kidding? lol
Q. Do you play online poker?
I have played online poker pretty much daily since 2002! I love it. I was mostly a cash player but now I spend alot of time playing Sit & Go's!
Q. Do you have a preference of which gender to play against?
No... but I win more with open events because women are TOUGH!!!
Q. What was your most memorable win?
hmmm... well the one that sticks out in my mind was the one at one of our annual Victory Poker Reunions. We were down to the final four and they were: My honey who taught me poker... The Dean of Poker School Online Al Spath... The Founder of PokerInstructors.com Chris Alexander and me. hehehe
I took each one of them out to win my trophy, and my autographed copy of Super System 2 from Doyle himself! ahhh yes... one of lifes great moments. lol
