What IsYour 1st B&M Experience?
FIRST NIGHT IN THE POKER ROOM
BY... Runnergirl
Well, I still can't breathe and the adrenalin is still going! I Put my name down for the 2-5 limit hold em table and got in almost immediately which was good. I didn't have much time to think about it and chicken out. I think there were tops three other women in the room with maybe 80 men. The table I was at I was the only woman. I Bought $60 worth of chips, let the dealer know that I hadn't played in a room before, he was great. First hand I'm dealt Q 10 d, I go in for two and it's raise, raise, raise all around, before I know it I've paid 8 dollars to see the flop. Flop comes with two diamonds and it's raise, raise, raise again. I've now spent 16 dollars, I'm thinking I'm going to be out of here quick. Turn comes nothing, everyone checks thank goodness. River comes no diamond. I fold. The next hand I get A J unsuited, just costs me two dollars to stay in, flop comes with Q K but there are two spades. Two dollars to stay in turn is another spade, everybody checks so I think nobody has the flush, river comes it's the 10. I bet five everybody folds, the guys at the other end of the table are cursing themselves for not calling and seeing what I had. Fold the next hand. The next hand I get AA I couldn't believe it. New dealer who is the spitting image of Ben Afflek is very, very distracting. I try raising when I could only open betting so everyone knows I've got a hand. Chuckles all around, but six go in with me. Flop comes 752 I try betting too much again and I'm told I can only bet 2. Nobody raises of course, chuckles all around again. The turn comes and nothing so I bet 5 and 3 stay with me. Thed river comes with nothing again so I bet 5 and now they want to see my cards so someone calls and I win the pot. I fold the next two hands then I get A 10 unsuited and I go in and flop A 10 3. I bet 2 nobody raises, turn comes with nothing I bet 5 guy raises I'm kicking myself this morning obviously I should had reraised, I just called. Same thing on the river and I win another big pot. Well now I'm so nervous I can't control the shaking of my hands and I'm having trouble breathing, idiot....right? So I decided to leave. Although this is sound like a long time, I was in there for maybe 30 minutes. I went in with $60 and came out with $134. Great learning experience!
My husband has more confidence in my game than he did before I went in (he was betting the horses waiting for me) my heart is still pounding as I'm writing this. Now I can't wait for my first tournament, there is one on the 11th, whether or not I can convince my husband that the 300 dollar buy in is worth it or not is another thing. I'll have to try a little of this.
I'm sorry this is so long winded but as you all know there is nothing like your first time. I've definitely missed some details. What I did notice was that I didn't have much time (as I was so nervous) to think about my position, who was betting and their position. This will take time and experience I guess and probably alot of money.
I had to edit this to add that when I left the poker room, I had absolutely no saliva left in my mouth, I could barely speak, next time I will know to order a bottle of water as soon as I sit down!

Wow awesome story Ginny--and dont you hate it when they give you a dealer that you just want to sit there & look at!
Great story about your first experience Ginster. I can't wait to hear more great stories from you in the future.
